King Saul was stubborn and would not obey God. Then God found David, a man who was humble, obedient, and who often worshipped and praised God. When David sinned, he repented of his sins and prayed to God "… cleanse me from my sin" (Psalms 51:2). Because David was humble, God spoke of him as "… a man after My own heart" (Acts 13:22). Because David obeyed God, God allowed him to rule as king for 40 years.
"So David went on and became great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him." 2 Samuel 5:10 (NKJV)
